Our Practices

Pigs

We raise Duroc/Hampshire cross pigs that get rotated onto a fresh section of pasture every 5-7 days. This gives them fresh forage for the duration of their lives, while also effectively breaking parasite cycles. They get sunshine every day, with some shade and wallows for the hotter summer months. Because pigs are not ruminant animals, grazing is supplemental to their diet. They are given a high quality feed, that is grown in Montana.

We are one of the only pork producers in our valley that are truly pasture based, which increases their quality of life and overall health. This makes our product some of the cleanest and highest quality you can find in the area.

Lambs

We raise primarily hair breeds of sheep (Dorper, Katahdin, and St. Croix crosses) because they tend to be more naturally parasite resistant, as well as more self sufficient when it comes to lambing. We have a guardian llama (Don Rodman, named after Dennis Rodman of the Chicago Bulls) to keep our flock safe from predators, like coyotes and mountain lions.

Our flock gets rotated throughout the pasture, which helps to prevent parasite infections and spread. Our lambs are 100% grass fed, and are never given grain.

With both our pigs and sheep, we do not use antibiotics or growth hormones. While vaccines and dewormers can be useful tools, we have found that by using more strategic management practices, we do not need to use them with our animals.
